I posted these images elsewhere so might as well put them up here.
I understand people have already made such adaptors but now there is a commercial product by Mayflash.
WaveBird works okay just a standard GC controller does.

Neat, but to me the main advantage of being able to use a Gamecube controller would be to not need a Wiimote with batteries.

Any adaptor like this that doesn't let you remap the buttons is a waste of money; there will always be some games that are extremely awkward to play due to the gamecube controller's "unique" layout. For example B and Y are next to each other on a classic controller but are spread apart on the GC controller.
