Deflicker Filter in PAL Games

Post by barsil » Fri May 30, 2025 8:03 pm

Hi everyone

As you know, most PAL GameCube games offer 60Hz, but not Progressive Scan. That said, it is possible to force it in most cases. However, I'm wondering about the deflicker filter. Since NTSC games offer progressive scan, does the deflicker filter disable when you select progressive scan? And since PAL games don't have a progressive scan selector, does the deflicker filter remain active if progressive scan is forced on PAL games?

I consider not disabling deflickering a compatibility issue. So it is always disabled by default when Swiss is forcing progressive scan, which it also is by default.

Thanks, that's a good thing, and if we don't disable it by default with Swiss, does it remain active on PAL games when progressive scan is forced? and if so, is it specific to PAL games or do NTSC games disable it when we select progressive scan? I'm asking because we can also force progressive scan with dolphin or with other backup launchers and even if they allow you to disable the deflicker filter as an option it is not necessarily disabled by default, for example one day I took a lot of screenshots with dolphin forgetting to disable it and I had to start all over again, and I also remember that an NTSC game left the deflicker filter enabled even when we set progressive scan (and I wondered if this was the case for all games and therefore if NTSC games didn't have this advantage over PAL games)

It's disabled by default. There are no settings to change. You don't have to force anything.

Out of the box with the default configuration, Swiss will force progressive scan mode and disable the deflicker filter for progressive scan mode, by default.
