Gamecube Laser POT tweaking myths

Post by KirovAir » Wed Mar 09, 2011 2:49 pm

Hi all,
I've read several things about the laser POT adjustment. Still, a lot of sources tell different things about the laser tear.
Within my current information, I believe this is the case:
- Lower POT value, is mostly an improvement in reading backup disks. Even though this is not always the case, since it seems some gamecubes will get worse results with lower POT values.
- Lower POT values will always kill your laser faster.
- Higher POT values might kill your laser faster too, since it'll need more re-reads because it's having a harder time reading backups.

Any input on these statements?
Or, any other input at all?
I'm mostly wondering what's the best way to reduce the laser being torn.

Thanks in advance. :)

I think you're pretty much right, apart from the low value killing it faster. The only thing that will kill it faster is bad media causing re-reads.

also, when talking about backups here consider the fact that fullsize media is also said to kill the motor faster
please search before you ask - a lot has been discussed already!
(or use google with "site:gc-forever.com *term*")

Noted.

So, essentially a lower value is (almost) always better, since it'll cause less re-reads in general, right? (Except for using über bad media)
