Gamecube disc window and custom led - few questions

Post by alzen » Sat Aug 31, 2013 9:03 am

I would like to make these 2 modifications in my cube, disc window and custom led.

Like shown here:

About disc window I'm totally pointless, I don't know from what material is it made(plastik? looks like a glass but as for me it's not glass for 100%) and how to cut it, any how-to maybe? I was searching found none.

And about led mod, does I need to check any led tech specs and select the right one as the mod led or I can pick-up every led I want and put it into the cube? I ask because a friend of mine who is into electronics told me that I need to check some tech specs of the new led to match the original led specs.

And what size is the right for the gamecube? Please tell me, will search for this in my neighbourhood.

About led, I found this tutorial:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To- ... ntendo-Ga/

Seems like I can use any led, guess the regular 3V would be ok.

And one interesing found, gamecube lego case, I just bumped on it:

Too bad there's no detailed instruction but I must make one for my little boy for sure, he'll be totally surprised :D. He's coming home from holidays tomorrow but I have too much work and cleaning in general to make it that fast :D. Also, it's like a free big dvd case - 'cause I can tell, almost every child has lego these days.

An acrylic cutting bit for a rotary tool (like a dremel) will cut perfect little circles. I never found a good way to mount the acrylic circle into the gamecube shell. My best efforts had me cutting the circle just a little smaller than the gamecube jewel and using a silicone sealant or thick CA glue to mount it. Was never happy with it.

Maybe remove the jewel and cut where the jewel is mounted. But don't cut the entire hole, leave a lip on it about 1/16-1/8 inch and cut the plexiglass exactly the same size as the jewel. It will have something to rest on. I've never done anything like that but it's just an idea.

And LEDs have different voltages as it can vary by color.
