Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
I've tested this - IDE-SATA01 ( http://www.span.com/product_info.php?products_id=6866)
It works well for both 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives, the lag is noticeable on 5400rpm drives, but that is to be expected I assume.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
works, but the the picture gets a little bit snowy. think there is a problem with the minus of the ide exi. when I disconnect the power supply of the ide->sata adapter the snowy effect disappears.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
I think you're experiencing the visual effects of a ground loop. It's the equivilent of the low freqency hum that you get in poorly grounded audio systems. Stray currents from the adapter PSU are flowing through the video cable to the ground on your TV.
This really shits me because it's hard to fix without extra gear. The easiest way to do it is to use a digital connection, but that's obviously not possible for a gamecube. The next port of call is to see if you can substitute in a different PSU, one that doesn't have the same problem.
EDIT - A ground loop isolator will also work if you can find one for composite video.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
Yeah, the ATA PSU's I've used which haven't had a good ground loop produce this noise. I suggest either a ground loop on the A/V or on the ATA power adapter.

Are sure it's not just the magnetic field created by the big fan psu's have? it's why sony and microsoft put cylinders on their wired controllers to cancel it out from washing machines, etc.

There called Clip-on Ferrites.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/clip-on-ferrite ... em3017-%29
Pin 2 doesn't need to be connected anyway.

On the molex connecter first black next to yellow, it should just push through with a pen or pencil.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
i will try it later.
Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
Could it be that the issue is that the ground is not shared, from the GC to the ATA Power supply?
I've got zero noise if I wire a common ground from the ATA Power supply (GND) to the IDE-EXI solder point in between the 3.3v and 5v (connector P4).
Although, some ATA power connectors (decent $20 not $4 eBay ones) don't have this problem to begin with.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
The 80-wire cable provides one ground wire to each signal wire. This reduces the effects of electromagnetic induction between neighboring wires, the connector has a grounding rail along the body to earth all the extra shielding wires in the cable.

I've seen people recommend Delock converters

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Delock-Konverte ... 121&sr=8-1
or others with the same Marvell 88SA8040 chip for the ps2 NAD so it should work fine with the IDE EXI too.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
I have just made an order from china, and this IDE-SATA adapter is included:
Very cheap price so, not expecting it to be perfect. I will post with how well it is, when my order arrives.

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
I use a DIGITUS 33151 or 33150.
Then i use a SATA cable to make SATA cables longer, a Sata to E-SATA Adaptor and at least i use an E-Sata Cable and a HDD in an E-Sata Case!

Re: Recommended SATA -> IDE Adapters
I have tested a few adapters from eBay with SunPlus SPIF223A bridge chips and they work without a problem.
Edit: Here is a picture of one of the working adapter.
