I would like to use a 256GB microSD card.
When using GC-loader, I think it is possible to use either FAT32 or exFAT, but which should I do?
I feel that FAT32 is more compatible, but it also has a weakness that it cannot store files larger than 4GB.
Also, is 32KB the most compatible allocation unit size?
Thank you.
Format when using GC-loader (FAT32 or exFAT)

64K should do too. For the 4GB file size limit, you just don't care as GCs disk images can't be bigger than 1,4GB. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

If you ask me, HFS+ may have been better… ![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
Don't know much about GCLoader at boot, but SWISS is just nice with FAT32, and I personally need my cards not to be in ExFAT format (for compatibility on the computer side).

thanks

It was written in the received GC-loader that exFAT is also possible.
Probably most people format it at 32KB, but I'm honestly not sure about the allocation unit size.
Here is the Microsoft support page.

Re: Format when using GC-loader (FAT32 or exFAT)
i believe i am using exfat for compatability with my macs and the ability to use the card for storing other files as well. i've only done a default format (on my mac) and used it ever since.

Zero issues here with ExFat. Suppose its nice to have the option of one or the other depending on what you'd need elsewhere.
