Panasonic Q question

I have a Panasonic Q which I have modded to also play PAL DVDs and I have installed a ViperGC. I am using Cobra 2.1 with Q drivecode which I got from the GCOS 1.5 source code. It works great, but there is one issue. After inserting a game you always need to turn it off and on again because the Cobra BIOS can only load a disc if it was already in the drive when you turn it on, but with the Q you can only insert a disc when it is on. I saw that emu_kidid is selling Qoob chips. Do Qoob chips also have this issue? Otherwise I would buy one.

I modded my Q the same way ^^

I always switch to DVD Mode than i can open the drive change the disk and so i can use it normal.

How you managed it with the color problems with pal games?

The issue might be that the Q never fully shuts off the DVD drive so the drive code is still resident in memory until a full power cycle/drive reset is issued. Getting a Qoob Pro might solve this issue, could you try launching Swiss and seeing if that works?

Only black and white with PAL games that don't support PAL60. I just play those game on my other cube.

And the Qoob SX? A Qoob Pro is a bit expensive for something that might work. (And I don't want to open it again without knowing 100% it will work, it takes a day to take it apart and another day to assemble it again 8-)).
Swiss works on the Q, I can insert the disc after loading Swiss, but then it's easier to insert a disc and switch to DVD mode and back.

These days i have to open my q. so i could solder a pro, when they will arrive from emu ;)

If emu can put one on hold for you, so long that i can test it, then i could tell you if it works or not.

I hope you understand me ^^

Would be great to know if it works. But is the SX bios different from the Pro besides that you can't run programs from flash? The SX does everything I need and for $20 I might just try it.

The Qoob PRO bios vs the Qoob SX bios is exactly the same apart from the lack of flash support (and cheats lacking due to no flash memory)

Hehe, but I have an already modded Q and I am looking to spend money because I am too lazy to turn it off and on again after inserting a game :P.

Anyway, I ordered a Qoob SX. sumas, please let me now how your Qoob Pro works with your Q so I can decide if I install it in my Q or in another cube.

You killed your Q?
Is the GC board in a Q exactly the same as a normal cube? Maybe you can replace it with a PAL board so you can play PAL games in color.

It is possible to replace it.

And i want to replace it with an japan board.

But first of all i need a new soldering station.

PS I dont sell my Q.

Would be interesting to know, which part you have killed. Maybe it can be repaired. (I think of the ipl-chip or a capacitor/resistor)

I don´t know.

just soldered the PRO, turned it on, black screen.
resoldered it, black screen, put it out black screen.

So first of all i have to get a new solder station.

then i will try to repair it.
then try to get an pal into it and if i get a new japan i will try that.

yeah, if you're still getting a black screen with it removed, something is messed up on the GC board :(
