Hi All,

As the subject suggests I am new to the NGC modding scene.

I have an old Limited Edition Zelda Platinum (PAL) NGC at my parents which I'm picking up this weekend, I'm unsure what the version is, and I don't really know if that matters or not.

I have tried reading through the posts on here, but there is a lot of information, but I don't seem to be able to find any real comparisons for best options etc (apologies if I missed something obvious!).

I am wondering if someone can advise me what the best approach for play backups is in 2015, I wanting the best possible compatibility for games, I would also really like to be able to run my media from an external HDD as I have a few lying around and I aren't really a big fan of slow SD cards for storing media etc. Finally if I can avoid having to solder that would be preferable, but if it is necessary it wouldn't be a problem.

Also is there anything else I should keep in mind when doing this, or any suggested apps/tweaks that would be worth taking a look at.

If you are absolutly against soldering a Megadrive V3 is the only option currently available to you. It's not really a great option as you will lose your disc drive functionality.

A WODE would allow you to to play games off USB with the above Megadrive, but they are hard to come by. WASP Fusions are more avaliable, but only work with SD cards.

If I removed the DVD drive, apart from the obvious fact I wouldn't be able to play originals anymore, is there any other downsides?

well you can't back up your own games, and two disc games are dicey at best with swiss

Thanks, I ending up getting an SDML as they are fairly cheap and easy to get a hold of in the UK. So far everything is working as expected.
