Can it play DVD movies with Software?

Nope, i thought of this as well, would be neat to have a Mini DVD Player.
well my minis have to be played in full size DVD Players.

MFE can do it.

1.4GB limit, so the movies would have to be transcoded and crunched to meet this size..
only panasonic Q can read the real full size DVD movies..

Have done it many times, Quality Reduction is hardly noticeable on CRT TV's.

yes you can, keep the bit-rate lowish.

Double Layer Mini DVD's hold 2.6GB so quality reduction wouldn't be as much.

where do i find this MFE ? i searched and seems like it no longer exists.

I'm pretty sure GC can't handle dual layer, give it a go though.

MFE might be floating around on gc-linux.org

How about a GC with a Wii drive? can the GC address a full sized 4.7gb dvd?

if MFE doesn't have a limit sure, otherwise you might need to compile it again, or mplayer-ce.

I wouldn't see why not. I haven't tried them before but the only difference is that they are double sided so they should. They do cost more and you can't label them so I'd suggest the cheaper route.
