Found what I should be looking for, they are called wheel potentiometer not log potentiometers ;)

Still not sure what impedance I should get, 500 or 1k? Or higher?

are you still using the iLuv thing?


does it have a volume control built in?
if yes, measure the resistance from minimum to maximum to determine what size pot to get..

if no, find an amp setup with volume control then you can maybe swap in your own pot depending on how the circuit is built


best suggestion: build your own audio amp which supports the functionality you require.
datasheets have all the info you need on a particular IC
also try google: some modders already have schematics and info posted on audio amp circuits

I mean I'd like to still use it, but I can only scrap the speakers from it I suppose. And no it doesnt have a volume control. Doesn't shockslayer have a good audio amp for gc?

Also mega do you think it would be worthwhile to wire a 251 block or no? A 1000 block would be better but I dont have any at the moment.

I said log pot because the impedance scales in a logarithmic way as opposed to linear ones that scale linearly. Log pots are better for volume control.

if the 251 block is original, then sure its worth it.
your can always use tools to make backups to SD which would provide an "unlimited" amount of space

Okay awesome, I will be doing that tomorrow then. My GC doesnt output sound anymore, I'm guessing a wire has become loose to the reg board correct?

Edit: 12v pin 21 isnt connected solved I believe.

Still no audio, tried on portable speakers and on tv speakers.

Edit: Getting a loud pop when unplugging the av cable out of the gc, even when power off. This is not normal I am guessing.

How hard would it be to lift out the av port with the pins intact? I have a hot air station.

try 380c
pins up, connector down
use a very thin screwdriver to help pry "down" the connector.
do not use force
take care to not blow away any other components in the area
(hint: blow out to the edge of the mainboard do not blow in toward the center of the mobo.)

Solder melts at 215c, why would 380c be needed?
By connector down, pins up do you mean the mobo facing downwards and looking at the underneath of the mobo?

If I do attempt this I will practice on a few ps3s first.

the metal shield around the connector is tied to GND and dissipates heat..
go ahead and try 215c...and grab a snickers because your gonna be there a while

Okay I will try at your temp :) to confirm, cpu would be facing downwards and the connector would be being lifted downwards as well?

UPDATE 2/23/14

Wired up 251 block memory card to the gamecube!

Casing is almost complete :D

Got a gameboy from a friend, he gave it to me for putting a letter in the mail for him. lol

I will be taking one of the wheel pots from it for the portables speakers.

Took these from a gameboy, will the board connected to the headphone jack serve any use to me?

I am wondering how to get the speakers to turn off when something is plugged into the headphone jack. Im guessing this requires a separate board to do this or a special jack.

Also, does anyone know the pin outs for this potentiometer? I know the two rear pins are ground and thats about it.

Edit: got the potentiometer working, but it will only put out power near the very last notch so I'm guessing the resistance is too high correct?

Edit: I will need a stereo potentiometer. I tried wiring a mono one to change the voltage going to the board thus changing the loudness of the speakers but this will not work.

Unless someone knows how to wire a mono potentiometer to stereo speakers while keeping them stereo I am stuck with over loud speakers for now :( :(

UPDATE 2/27/14

Good news and bad news,

Good news: got the battery pack in

Bad news: No idea what the capacity is.

Here is a picture of the pack disassembled, it was huge at first and there was some Styrofoam in the pack so the lipo packs wouldnt move around or to give off the idea of a bigger/heavy pack.
I have no clue how battery wiring work, I know there is series and parallel thats about it. There doesnt seem to be some sort of smart charger attached either? If anyone could help me out that be great. No markings or anything on the packs either.

Edit: Wired it up to the gamecube and everything works. I guess the real test will be how long it will run correct?

A quick look on google has shown that 10000mah packs usually use 3 cells like these of this size. Maybe its legit? As for the charging, do I need a special charger ?

How many volts are they? Remember if they truly are 12v after a while of using it the voltage will decrease too much so it can't power the GC.
It may be beneficial to use a 14volt battery or the like and use a 12v regulator.

Well, happy to hear everything works, run a battery test with it (and i'd like to know which batteries they are too :)

Edit: As for charging, no clue. Not my field.

They are 12v batteries and yes I will be doing a battery test tomorrow night when I have a few hours to kill to monitor it.
