Well, I've been trying for a long time looking to downsize full DVDs, but to no avail. I wish there was no need to destroy the NGC box.
after destroying the guinea pig's dvds, I managed to start the Swiss without any problems with the 4.7 GB mini DVDs!
now it's always working! a genuine change!
I call this change: DVdol

Only for Swiss! 8-)

after doing a complete job with the soldering iron, pliers; remove the secondary layer of the DVD mold, scrape the circle with sandpaper.
do it very calmly, so as not to damage the DVD mirror.
there is your DVdol.

This is a bad idea, the disc can split over time and cause the laser to wear out very quickly.

I thought about this mod to use only with Swiis emu_kidid, it would be for dead readers like mine, just to boot.
I don't recommend it for games, for the reason you mentioned. I used it here, and it gave good results. Data tracking does not reach the end of the mirror. would it still spoil?
Burning with a hot iron at the ends of the DVD seals out any scratches that may exist.
I’ve been using it here to boot the Swiss, but as I said myself,
Swiss only.
I will not disagree with you emu_kidid,
Only it was the only way I could find to get the Swiss off! without cutting the gamecube cabinet.
It would only be for the Swiss.
It worked for me because the engine stops after starting. :|

You may be able to cut more precisely with a high-speed grinder with the disc in an old optical reader.

I have thought about it, and you are lucky enough not to see your discs split, as EmuKidid specified.

Anyways, it is always good news to avoid to cut the console's casing.

Yo, this is super ghetto and I like it. :D

But as stated above, continue at your own risk.

Well, I'm happy with this mod, as I've been using my open game cube for years and now I can hold it by the handle.
the issue that our dear Emu_kidid talked about is that DVDs can break and fragment with this modification.

I noticed this on DVDs with a mirrored surface. Clean-surface DVDs, as for printing, are the best. because its surface is thicker and more resistant.
this one from Smartbuy is very good and does not fragment easily.
The secret to using this mod is to use DVDs that are not mirrored. otherwise, nothing will work. in addition, the cut must be made with hot iron, as it is the burning of the blade that seals the ends.
Initialization is done without delay on a 10-ohm laser.
In Brazil, a complete DVD costs on average 0.50 cents. A ridata one, when found, costs 15 dollars. but there is no more in the whole country!
all mini DVD brands here in Brazil are hated by gamecubes, they are not started with dead laser.

This is the best solution, at the user's own risk.
