Hey Emu_Kidid,

Thanks for the new website. I'm glad to see the NGC scene still kickin it. I was wondering if you had heard anything about the dvd emulator prototype that replaces the NGC drive by using microSD, etc. Any info on this project would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Again,

tehscene

Any chance the Gamecube DVD Emulator and the SD-Boot/USB-Boot application are the same thing?

DVD-Emulator functionality can be implemented into the next version of that application (it won't be called sd-boot anymore).

One question about this DVD-emulator: are we talking about beeing able to boot games/homebrew without using the optical drive?
I'm looking forward to use the gamecube like the ps2 (booting homebrew from the memory card, no modchip required, no optical 'reader' required)

Cheers.

The opticial drive is replaced by a usb / sd card reader I think to take advantage of the higher read / write read from the dvd controller or bus :? , the memory card slot with sd adaptor is too slow practical use the only other alternative is streaming the data over a network.

What? :?: But isn't the DVD-Emulator a piece of hardware?

Will it or sd-boot with dvd-emulator functionaloty work with audiostream games?

the DVD emulator is hardware, but sd-boot will support it (i.e. list files on it, allow users to add cheats + execute code/dol files).

That is exactly what I would like to see in the GCN scene. I don't want to get a Gamecube Mod Case. I just want to disconnect the DVD Drive, plug in a dvd emu board with flexpcb and then use your software to manage every other aspect.

I was considering purchasing a XenoGC or DouQ. However, then I would either need a case mod to fit reg DVDs or Use Mini DVD-R's. Both I'm not too excited about. I want to turn my GCN into a media entertainment center like the Wii has MPlayer CE....I use that in one room to load all my media (Music and movies) via SMB.

I just got a BBA and am going to hardwire CAT5 to the GCN to have another LAN media center/game console....if this is even possible since I have it just laying around anyway. I think the DVD Emu board will just make life a lot easier as loading DOLs will just be easier.

mmm, so it is a piece of hardware. I'm quite sure, it won't be available in my country unles is some kind of DIY hardware.
¿Will it be DIY or sold somewhere?

It will most likely be sold someplace.. I'm really not sure on specifics.

in my opinion this has nothing to do with my question. i didnt ask for the dvd emulator, i asked for a method to load games without the dvd drive with sd boot. the team of the dvd emulator say sinc years that there will be a dvd emulator soon. but till now there is no release date or pictures. there are just 2 pictures of 2 different devices. one with just an micro sd slot and an other with an ide and sd slot.
in my opinion after such a long period of time they need to hurry up. there arent many people who have still a gamecube at home.

yeah you are right but in my opinion people develop such a product to make profit but how do they want to make this when nearly nobody anymore has a gamecube?

Well, the gc is a system really cheap and with lots of incredible homebrew and emulators...

One day this things will need new optical lens and this is borring, and the disc read errors too.

The gc also got a lot of great games, and we can even play zelda ocarina on it, zelda twilight princess, smash bros melee.

And thanks to the wii retrocompatibility it keeps the gamecube somewhat alive, cuz you can buy new controllers for gamecube, new memory cards...

This dvd-emulator can ressurect a lot of gamecubes, its oh so great. I wanna see it in stores!!
