Since this popped up in another thread.
There's the (even rarer) VGA cable....BUT there are handmade ones - did anybody ever try one of these?
Since they only cost a third of the original one it MIGHT be nice to get one of these...

Tchay has done the vga mod I believe, you need a component cable to do it though. Here is some info on it:

Disassembling a component cable. That's some expensive modding nowadays.

Good tutorial though. But my heart just dropped when I saw that cable disassembled.

Makes me wonder if the official RGB-Scart cable is really RGB and not just Composite it's not fully wired with all 21 pins afterall. I do see a slight improvement over the standard included composite cable but it's not as dramatic as the change from composite to rgb-scart on the ps2, my ps2 cable is fully wired.
For instance re0 looks more less the same on both cables.

Would be stupid to wire all 21 pins though, cause all pins are only needed, if you want the cable to be bi-directional and supporting s-video. There is no S-Video on PAL gamecubes and no video input, too.

I'm PAL, I'll try making that mod see if it's any better than the official cable, it just doesn't seem quite right imo, it has pins 1,2,3,4 - 7,8,9,10,11,12 at the GC end where as this mod has pin 6 connected. What port is the modded cable for?

Which mod do you mean?
If you got a rgb cable where pins 7, 11 and 15 are wired (scart side) and your tv is supporting rgb, there is no need for a mod.
If the tv does not support rgb, there is composite video signal at pin 18 and 20 (scart side).
EDIT: Ahh, my fault. Should consider taking a nap, can't read properly anymore

nevermind.

Same here zzzz nearly.
The PAL GC RGB-Scart mod vs Official GC RGB-Scart cable DOL-013(Eur).
If anything the official one, it's got too many wires connected since s-video and composite should be missing from it, tv fully supports rgb-scart.
Looks like this at the scart end.
I should only need on the GC end
1 red video (PAL only),
2 green video (PAL only),
4 blue video (PAL only),
10 +5V DC,
3 +12V DC,
6 ground,
11 audio left,
12 audio right.

My third party ps2 one is different to one on that mod page too, it uses three 100uF 10v capacitors instead with a 15 ohm resistor.

well, there has to be another way to make a vga cable ... otherwise: how can they offer selfmade vga cables for 35$, if they're made from at least 50$ component cables Oo
