on vba gx, i have tried to play metroid fusion and it freezes after i get to the next board which is SRX i think, it freezes at first navigation room in SRX. help plz? what should i do?

when i play this game on my PC with this emulator, i have hard times beating the levels due to lack of being able to jump and shoot up at the same time. Shooting upward in general is unresponsive at best
