and because you guys like to cut boards up to tiny pieces...
just in case you feel the need...

PAL 1.2 (without digital port)? Then you are not too late..

YES - without digital AV

AND if necessary:
Qoob Pro installed - and IDE-Exi available

DAMN...

Can you find a way to build a digital out?

there is some information already posted in this thread regarding my theory as to why a DOL-101 may never be compatible for 480p without possibly some major hardware changes to the motherboard...after reading the information, i hope it becomes clear...

currently, my recommendation is to purchase a GC with digital port....or use a wii

well....

testing was not as easy as expected...
wired up the board to the GC and no video...
checked all solder points again...checked design again...nothing appeared wrong...
made a quick jump to convert the VGA board to YPBPR...no video...
even tho all solder points checked out good, i desoldered all components and resoldered...no video...
things were not looking good...

i desoldered the MX chip and destroyed my original dev board to change it into a quick prototype to accept a MX breakout board i just made...
i placed the MX on top of the contact points to the breakout board and no video...
HMMMMM!!!!

no video from a board with a known working design??
i grabbed another MX chip....no video...
another MX chip...no video...
another MX chip...then i got video...

I almost puked...i had that sick feeling in my stomach...oh shit...
so i went thru the painstaking process of testing every MX chip...
6 of the chips had no video and are currently suspected to be defective...
what a stroke of luck...when i tested the initial shipment, i tested a few at random which all passed so i assumed all worked...
some luck, fuck me!!
ive put those 6 suspected chips in a different container to test later...maybe if anything there was not sufficient contact since i only tested by placing the chip on the contact points and applied pressure to make contact...maybe a good soldering will provide better results...but i must consider these as defective until proven otherwise...

so..current supply status: 19 chips available, 6 to be determined...
...as if i wasn't already in the red with this project...now this??
damn....

19 - 4 = 15 left...
once i get the initial 4 pre-orders out, confirm results, assess feedback, make any improvements...then the next 15 will be up for grabs...

if anything, the mini-board posted previously works great..

FYI Ashen, Zen
i had some line noise which were corrected when i secured the video GND lines a bit better, they were floating not soldered......but worked fine afterwards..
i got a busy week, so ill make your boards this weekend and contact via PM..

prot0n, iggunr
i just received the long header pins and ill start working on the A/V boards...

another update...
i finally figured out the missing key to get the soldermasks to come out fuckin fantastic!!!
these things (in my opinion) look professional finish...
so user optional finish will be red or blue...ill post some photos later...

Ashen, Zen, prot0n, iggunr
pick your color...

I like to collect various Gamecube prototype/development bric-a-brac.
I would love one of those defective chips to go with my collection. I hope they eventually work and still plan on buying one of your boards, but, if all else fails, I would like buy one of the defective chips from you.

Maybe I can epoxy it into a badass paperweight?

hmmmm...nice idea, sure ill sell a dead chip...
but now that you mention it....if they do turn out to be duds, maybe this would be a nice collector option...
great way for you to think outside of the box...

this sounds like another cool project to try out...
how the hell do i make a paperweight?
glue a chip to a brick??

lets see what happens and what i can come up with....

Sending so many dead chips, the laziness! Unfortunately the keys to the project have to suffer..

After the bad news, I like blue, can't say enough we are so in luck with this personal AV board.

hmmm im getting a little nervous too.. I really hope those chips will work somehow, if not, I would like one of those too if possible :P
any color will do :)

That's a real bummer about the (possibly) dead chips man. Is it possible they are a different revision of the chip requiring a different design? I'll gladly pay a bit more to help you recoup the costs, I know all to well how these things go. Anyway, I think the red is sexy. So I'll take that. Thanks again for all the work you've put into this for us here @ GC-Forever man. I'll make sure the unit I use this for is worthy of both our work.

Pity about those chips.... They might work though be sure to test them multiple times.
I'll take a red board too. Can't wait to see it completed.

i think i have finalized the all in one internal design for the main board...

of course i got traces running all over the place so its gonna take a few extra hours to review and ensure proper connectivity...
here is the layout of the work in progress design
measurements:
28mm x 75mm
or
1.10in x 2.95in
