Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
Would it be possible to port the exploit used on the Wii version of Twilight Princess to the Gamecube?
I do not have a modified Gamecube, nor do I have SDML and I don't want to pay for an old Action Replay.
I do have, however, have:
1. http://www.hkems.com/product/gc/gc%20usb.htm
Allows me to transfer saves between mt GC and PC. (Works very well.)
2. Wiikey SD adapter.
3. A legit copy of Twilight Princess for the Gamecube.
Here is the first release of the hack: http://wiidownloads.com/2008/03/11/twil ... 0.1-alpha1
It supports the SDGekko, but v1.03 onward do NOT support the SDGekko.
Here is the Git where the source to the hack is stored: http://git.infradead.org/users/segher/savezelda.git
I am not a coder. I can't even clone the Git. I just don't know how to make Ubuntu do it.

Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
No, I believe the buffer overflow exploited by the twilight hack only exists in the Wii version of the game.
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
Impossible. Both versions are completly different games that work completly different on a Wii.
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
Now then you can't afford an old action replay, why not work hard to earn money instead of playing games to kill time?
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
The twilight hack is not possible due to different game structure, however there are several ways to boot homebrew on the gamecube.
If a modchip is not the right for you (xeno-gc for ~15€ would be enough), you can use softmods like SDML, AR or the old and famous PSO-exploit(not recommended). If none of these options is for you, i dont think we can help you, sorry.

Okay. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was too poor for an Action Replay.
I meant "I don't want to pay the absurd prices that Action Replays sell for."
I wasn't looking for pity, which is what I can see my wording inspires. I was actually just asking the question for curiosities sake. It's not some last ditch attempt to join in the modding community.
Again, I wasn't trying to sound pitiful. I really don't want you thinking that was my goal. It was just me pitching an idea. I have changed to wording to remove all pity that could have been incurred due to my post.
In fact, I would rather you think me a jerk than pitiful. Therefore, I am posting this pic:
See? No reason for pity.
The reason I asked was because that modchip I soldered doesn't work. The solder is not bridging where it should. Alas.

I had the twilight hack crashing the gamecube game but I didn't take it any further - this was about 2 years ago.. All I need is more non-existent free time to get things done like this :p

Was there any update software for the GC that ran off the memory card?, similar to the DVDPlayer on the PS2? maybe we be could workout somone buffer overflow trick like Mr. Brown's original PlayStation driver exploit. Is the BIOS or IPL whatever it's called for GC dumped anywhere for us to dissasemble with IDA Pro? Always wondered why Dolphin doesn't give the option for a real BIOS to be used. Maybe some mc icon loader trick.

@emu_kidid: a port of the twilight hack for the GC would be wonderfulkevstah2004 wrote:Was there any update software for the GC that ran off the memory card?, similar to the DVDPlayer on the PS2? maybe we be could workout somone buffer overflow trick like Mr. Brown's original PlayStation driver exploit. kevstah2004: if comex would finally release the bannerbomb source code, we could look whether the same bug applies while parsing the savegames images
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
I recall someone finding a way to exploit SSBM, but I don't know if a working exploit was ever released.
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
But it's not going to happen. Twilight Hack is for Wii Mode. Twilight Princess for GC runs in GC Mode. You cant execute a Wii mode exploit in GC mode. The chance of running GC games off a USB-HDD through the USB ports are much better than this, but even that failed.steffen wrote: @emu_kidid: a port of the twilight hack for the GC would be wonderful
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
But we want an exploit to run GC homebrew, not Wii homebrew
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
There's simply no point. GC homebrew on Wii requires a hacked MIOS. A hacked MIOS cannot be achieved without a Wii mode exploit.steffen wrote:But we want an exploit to run GC homebrew, not Wii homebrew
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
But nobody's been talking about a Wii here at all! They want to use this to launch Gamecube homebrew on a Gamecube.
I'm willing to bet the same buffer overflow is in the Gamecube version of the game too, so maybe it is possible to port it over.

Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
Oh, then it's my bad
Re: Porting Twilight hack to Gamecube...Possible?
By the way, a GC game exploit wouldn't require a hacked MIOS if it was running on a Wii.. But no one cares about the Wii anywayCubelover wrote:GC homebrew on Wii requires a hacked MIOS.

Indeed if we were to make an exploit for the game to execute a dol from an SD Gecko/IDE-EXI we would not need a modded mios.

Finding a bug that allows us to create that exploit will be the hard part though. Most of these things are found by sheer accident.
